Intro to Climbing Anchors

The Climbing Anchors school covers the basics of setting anchors at the top of a cliff for "top rope" climbing, though the concepts learned in this class are valuable in all aspects of rock climbing. Students will learn various climbing knots, proper ways to anchor to things, and safety and redundancy in setting up climbing anchors. On the trip, students will set and climb on top-rope anchors using natural protection such as trees, rocks and other natural features as well as artificial protection such as nuts, SLCDs, hexes, and tricams. You must have completed the Climbing Beginner School or have equivalent knowledge to take this class.

The Climbing Anchors school consists of one classroom session and one all-day trip. You must attend the classroom session to be able to attend the trip. Please note that trips tend to begin at 7 or 8am and often don't return until 10 pm. Participants are often required to carpool.
